Canadian Government Funds Tattoo Parlors Inside State Prisons

Getting a tattoo in prison, usually means the down-and-dirty homemade needle and ink version with a paper clip, and some ink from a pen

But recently, in an effort to stem deseases like AIDS and hepatitis, the Canadian governement has allowed inmate-run tattoo parlours inside the minimum-security Rockwood Institution, Atlantic Institution in Renous, N.B., Cowansville Institution in Cowansville, Que., Bath Institution in Bath, Ont., and Matsqui Institution in Abbotsford, B.C. Funding for the project has come from a one-year, $700,000 grant by Health Canada.

The cost for the prison tattoo is $5 Canadian

Ithink it is relly good that the canadian goverment is allowing tatoo parlors in the prisons it will save on all the hepc hiv and aids benning spread to the other personers

The Australian Govt. is considering it, though the general consensus among them is that it woul lead to heavier coverage and therefore prevent an ex prisoner's return to a 'normal' lifestyle. And the problem with that is....?
Surely preventing diseases such as Aids and HIV, (which in turn is theoretically spread upon release), should take priority over appearance?

While I'm glad to see the Prevention of the horriable deseases.Did no one else see the amount of money this project took?!?!? $700,000?!? Have we forgoten these are Cons. The same cons that when out would prey on you and your mothers and daughters.These cons deserve nothing more than three hots and a cot.

I agree......while helping to stop the spread of diseases, this means that every prisoner gets the luxery of paying only $5.00 for a tatoo?!?!?!
When in the "real world", it costs several hundreds of dollars?!?!

finally! i was wandering when they would understan that it would continue no matter what they did it control the stopping of tatto's in prisons now people can quitw worring about disese transfer. in 1 place at least. good for them.

i think the canadian government finally got shit straight! i been to prison and it is going to be a place to get ink no matter what they say or do to you! having a tat parlor they can keep up to par is a sound decision and needs to be addressed in the states as well, people been getting tats in the joint years before any of us were ever thought of and they will get them years after the dirt is thrown on us!!!
