What is the best lubricant for your tattoo while it is healing?
Originally Vaseline was the top choice, but it was found to cause the colors in tattoos to fade and drain. Neosporin and Bacitracin are sometimes used, but often cause allergic reactions such as red bumps and weeping that can effect the healing process. Many artists now recommend A&D. Though it is not an antibiotic, it contains vitamins A and D which promote healing while the ointment itself provides a protective layer on the skin. Most artists will recommend using lotion on your skin after a few days, but try to avoid lotions containing bee’s wax and lanolin. Lanolin can cause allergies, and bee’s wax can clog pores. Bottom line? Ask your artist, they know.
Yeah, my artist recommended Bacitracin, but when I used it, it would burn and itch, so I compromised by thinning it down with Lubriderm. It worked pretty well for me.

I used A&D ointment during the entire healing process of my color tattoo and it looks great. Does not need any touch ups at all. My husband did the same with his B&W and got the same results. A&D ointment is the best.

I've tried EVERYTHING...
and have had the very best results with A&D, and less works best!

Hey,
My tattoo artist, George, recommended Curel with the green and blue label, because it has the vitamins, helps the tattoo to heal in other ways, and has no alcohol so the tattoo doesn't get dried out. To agree on a point stated before, less is more.
much love,
Hobbes :)

My artist Keith,in Florida, turned me on to "AQUAPHOR" which is a healing ointment used for minor burns and dry, cracked skin. This product cut the healing time for new tattoos and did not fade any of my work.
I had used "A&D" for years with good results but the healing time seemed to take much longer than with other lotion products.

I found that pure aloe vera gel worked really well. It has healing properties and is completely natural which is great!

I'm in Australia so this might be a continent specific product, but every artist over here recommends "Bepanthen", a type of Vitamin E cream.

my artist also recommended the Curel unsented lotion. My tattoo healed nicely without any ink scabbing off.

I've also used Curel unscented with great success.
